Bali Diving with Kids

What You Need to Know About Scuba Diving with Kids in Bali

According  PADI (Professional Association of Dive Instructors), kids can be certified as PADI Junior Open Water Divers when they reach 10 years of age. PADI even has pool programs for 8-year-olds called bubble maker. Scuba diving agencies like PADI or SSI allow kids to enrol in scuba diving classes, but not all kids and teenagers are ready to handle the underwater environment and the scuba theory required to finish the diving course in Bali.

Scuba Diving with Kids

PADI in their resource guide for instructors and parents say that the following questions must be considered before we take any child diving:

  • Does the boy or girl want to learn to scuba dive? Isn’t the diving only the desire of the parents?
  • Is the child medically fit and OK to go scuba diving?
  • Can the child swim and feel comfortable in the water?
  • Can the child listen to the PADI instructor and have enough of stamina to pass the diving theory lessons?
  • Can the child apply multiple safety diving rules and principles in to practical diving?
  • At what level are the child reading skills sufficient enough to learn from PADI adult-level diving books?
  • Is the child confident enough to tell to an diving instructor or a divemaster about any discomfort during the dive or not understanding anything?

In OK Divers dive resort in Bali we are generally relaxed about children diving in Bali. Of course we do understand the needs to strictly follow the recommendations of PADI scuba training programs, maintain the direct supervision of the child and the scope of diving recommended by PADI.
